Dear colleagues

On behalf of Amanda Gordon, I am writing to those of you who are full APS members to seek your support AND SIGNATURE for an urgent proposal to form an APS Interest Group on Refugee Issues and Psychology.

I have attached some draft Terms of Reference for the group, as well as a formal signature form to express support for the formation of this new Interest Group.

We see this proposal as a logical follow-on from the APS Literature Review and Position Statement on the Psychological Wellbeing of Refugees and Asylum Seekers in Australia, to which a number of you contributed: http://www.psychology.org.au/community/public-interest/refugees/

This request is urgent and requires an immediate response if you are willing to support the proposal. In order to form an Interest Group, the signatures of 20 Full Members (from more than one State) must be obtained and Terms of Reference for the proposed group will need to be submitted to the APS Board, which meets this weekend – this is the last chance to have the proposal approved for inclusion on the Agenda of the APS AGM which will take place at the National Conference in Canberra in early October. Here’s the process:

Signature Form
The signature form will need to be signed by 20 APS members with the grades Full Member, Fellow or Honorary Fellow from more than one State. It is important that the original copy is received in the post rather than faxed only. So you can fax or email your signed form to me TODAY, but you must also send the hard copy to the Member Groups Administrator, to arrive by this Friday, 29th July. Details are on the attached form.

We look forward to receiving your signed form, as well as any comments you might like to make about the proposal, the position statement or other aspects of the APS’s Public Interest initiatives regarding the wellbeing of refugees and asylum-seekers.

Thanks so much

Heather
