Hello everyone - apologies if you've already received this, but just in case you're not on the Women & Psychology email list...

In this email you find information on the Call for Presentations and Papers for the 21st Annual Women and Psychology Residential Conference at Wollongong, NSW: http://www.groups.psychology.org.au/wip/events-cpd/conference/ We hope you'll consider presenting and joining us there - it's a great opportunity for students to dip a toe in the warm waters of feminist psychology by presenting relevant research or just meeting like-minded women across a range of research and practice fields in psychology. The deadline for submissions has been extended to next Friday 5th August

Warmest regards,
Heather - on behalf of RaeLynn Wicklein, National Convener,
APS Women & Psychology Interest Group

REMINDER: CALL FOR PRESENTATIONS AND PAPERS

Valuing women and children in their diverse life contexts

21st Annual Residential Conference of the APS Women and Psychology Interest Group
Friday 2nd - Sunday 4th December 2011
Wollongong Surf Leisure Resort, Wollongong, NSW

Conference theme: Valuing women and children in their diverse life contexts

The conference is an occasion to celebrate women's action, agency, initiatives, health and wellbeing, locally and globally, and to critically reflect on how we, as researchers, practitioners, scholars, activists, friends, and neighbours, embody/facilitate these rich processes. The focus will be critical reflection on valuing women's and children's situated experience in their diverse life contexts through a feminist perspective to psychological theories, research, policies, policy development and practice, and exploration of impacts on women and children. We aim for multi-disciplinary submission of abstracts relevant to the conference theme and attendance by psychologists, social workers, counsellors, GPs, mental health practitioners, nurses, community workers, school teachers, policy analysts, public health officers. Students are especially invited to attend and encouraged to submit abstracts.

Keynote speakers

  * Dr Cordelia Fine is an academic psychologist and writer. Described as "a brilliant feminist critic of the neurosciences", the Guardian suggested that her recent book, Delusions of gender: The real science behind sex differences, could have far-reaching consequences as significant as The Female Eunuch." She is currently a Senior Research Associate at the Centre for Agency, Values & Ethics at Macquarie University, and an Honorary Research Fellow at the Department of Psychological Sciences at the University of Melbourne.

  * Dr Katie Thomas' research passions are social justice and the nurturance of children. Her experiences as academic, clinician and human drove her most recent publication Human Life Matters: a documentation of global erosion of human rights, and particularly those of children, with specific focus on Australia.
