	BACKGROUND

This a State Government funded full-time position for a period of three
years.  Melton and Moorabool Shire Councils successfully applied for
Transport Connections funding through the Department for Victorian
Communities to undertake the Connecting Communities project.

The Connecting Communities project aims to explore and develop
innovative and sustainable local practical transport solutions which
meet the needs of transport disadvantaged communities in the Melton and
Moorabool municipalities.   (Transport relates to any issue related to
public transport and community transport and access to these forms of
transport but not roads and infrastructure)

The project is a partnership project between the Melton and Moorabool
Shire Councils; public and private transport providers, education
providers and health service providers and will also involve liaison
with Brimbank Council.


1.	POSITION OBJECTIVE(S)

Research and data collection to identify transport need, map service
provision and ascertain accessibility of services by residents across
the municipalities. 

In conjunction with the Steering Committee to develop a sustainable
strategy for improving transport access and utilisation, across
identified target communities. 

Implementation of initiatives to address the transport disadvantage of
targeted communities and groups to improve access and coordination of
existing transport services. 



2.	KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS

Transport Project Facilitator is employed as part of the state wide
Transport Connections Program being co-ordinated by the Department for
Victorian Communities on behalf of the State Government to develop and
implement sustainable transport initiatives and strategies that improve
transport for the community, but with a particular emphasis on the
transport disadvantaged.

The role is responsible to the Melton and Moorabool Transport
Connections Steering Committee for program direction. The role is
responsible to Melton Shire Council, as the auspicing agency, for
personal and professional conduct.  The position will operate from both
Melton and Moorabool Shire Councils.
