Health Libraries Australia (HLA) Conference August 29-30, 2024
Only 7 weeks until the Health Libraries Australia (HLA) Conference – Wicked Problems, Innovative Solutions. Come to Caboolture, Qld in August to warm up with some fresh ideas to inform your newly developing practice!
Our keynote speakers are Prof Mark Hutchinson (AI in Healthcare) and Prof Paul Glasziou (Reducing research waste and improving access to quality evidence). Themes include advocacy and community engagement, open access publishing, AI technologies, digital transformation, and changing user demands. Dr Peter Ellerton
Dr Peter Ellerton is the Curriculum Director of the University of Queensland Critical Thinking Project, a Senior Lecturer in the School of Historical and Philosophical Inquiry, and an Affiliate Senior Lecturer in the School of Education. The educational goal of teaching students to navigate uncertainty and ambiguity with confidence is increasingly crucial. Misinformation, disinformation, and the overwhelming volume of real information challenge reasoning. AI complicates education, prompting a re-evaluation of teaching methods. Peter's morning keynote will address teaching critical thinking, developing collaborative and creative skills, and share the latest research and resources on these topics.

Marek Kowalkiewicz is a Professor and Chair in Digital Economy at QUT Business School. Listed among the Top 10 Global Thought Leaders in AI by thinkers360. In his afternoon keynote, Marek will delve into the digital economy’s impact on education, exploring methods to create dynamic learning environments and empowering teachers and students to navigate the complexities of the digital age.

Professor Michael Dezuanni
Professor Michael Dezuanni researches digital media, literacies and learning in home, school and community contexts. He is the Program Leader for Creating Better Digital Futures for QUT's Digital Media Research Centre and he is a chief investigator in the ARC Centre of Excellence for the Digital Child. Michael’s session will tackle the challenges adults and children face in identifying false information online, especially on social media. Attendees will be inspired with foundational ideas and strategies to mitigate misinformation and enhance media literacy.

Dr Kay Oddone
Concerned by the "perfect information storm" created by Generative AI in our post-truth society? Kellie Britnell leads a talented team supporting the eSafety Commissioners awareness and capability initiatives and has over 15 years’ experience working in the online safety space. Previously an educator in Australia and overseas, Kellie has developed and delivered professional learning and resources for various audiences, including school leaders, librarians, wellbeing officers, parents, elite sports teams, law enforcement, and judiciary members. She has established partnerships with universities, education bodies, sporting organizations, and support services. A career highlight is her role on the online safety expert panel for the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.

Baden is an entrepreneurship educator and innovation professional, a multiple company founder, and has a background in investment banking and private equity. He works with organisations to develop and deliver on innovation-based strategy, and with educational institutions to design entrepreneurship education programs and develop internal capability.
