Dear students
Murdoch University, WA will again generously host a group of library prac students, mid-year 2018 for a three week placement. Last year the time frame was June 12-30 - this year it may be similar or shift into July. We will know closer to time. If you are interested please list Murdoch University on your prac application, if you have already submitted the prac application email me to express interest. Hoping to have a flyer soon to promote this opportunity.
So if you have the flexibility, range of skills and would like to work as part of a team, then please read on:
Murdoch University Library is offering you the chance to be a part of a team working towards making its special collections more accessible and discoverable to everyone. The focus of the project is to create engaging, interactive digital material which can be used to promote the special collections to the university community and raise their profile with researchers and the worldwide academic community. You can build on the digital literacy knowledge gained during your studies and put this into practice in the creation of digital promotional material. A range of skills are needed to bring this project to life such as good communication skills, creative and design skills, content creation and software skills and you would be working as a team to create something that would be used in practice.
In addition during the practicum you can contribute to the indexing of an area of the collection that you have an interest in.
Some of the collection highlights include:
* Irene Greenwood collection. Collection donated by Irene Greenwood, Australian feminist, peace activist, political activist, broadcaster and writer. The collection includes personal correspondence, radio transcripts, books, journals and papers of the organisations with which she was involved.
* Science fiction The Library has a large collection of comics, graphic material, periodicals and Australian science fiction fanzines, including the significant Leigh Edmonds Collection
* Women's electoral lobby - a collection of archived papers from WA
* Pankhurst collection Source material documenting the United Kingdom Women's Suffrage Campaign,
* Abortion Law Reform Association WA The collection consists of papers deposited by the Western Australian branch of the Abortion Law Reform Association (A.L.R.A.). These include reports, some correspondence, newsletters, scrapbooks, newspaper clippings, pamphlets and journals covering the interests and activities of the Abortion Law Reform Association (W.A.) from its foundation in 1969 onwards.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Kind regards
Bec
