Dear students

As it is not often we get a conference like this one in Perth, you
should seriously think about attending it. It will be great for
networking and being brought up to date on thinking in the archives
field.

Kerry

 Dear Colleagues,

The ASA Conference Perth 2008 Committee would like you to seriously
consider attending the next Australian Society of Archivists Conference
to be held in Perth 7-9 August 2008. The venue for the Conference is the
Parmelia Hilton Hotel.

The conference theme is Archives: Discovery and Exploration and the
Conference Committee is very excited by the potential quality of the
Program. Themes relating to Digital Archives and 'Archives and Identity'
are strongly represented in program and it was always the aim of the
Conference Committee was to have a program blending Australasian and
international experiences of Archives.

Some of the international speakers at the Conference include:

Andrew Flinn from University College London, talking about multicultural
identities and Archives; Amanda Engineer from the Wellcome Trust UK,
talking about Archives relating to the Indian Ocean; Lekoko Kenosi
talking about the Truth and Reconciliation Archives in South Africa;
John Tuck from the British Library talking about the Digital Lives
project; Darwin Stapleton from the Rockefeller Archive Center, Sleepy
Hollow, New York and their use of DSpace; Erik Ketelaar, the National
Archivist of the Netherlands; and many others.

There are also important Australasian contributions on topics such as
Archives and the Weather, Marketing Archives in the Digital Age,
Archiving Seismic Data and Oil samples for later business use, and the
Impact of the Who Do You think You Are TV series on UK and Australian
archives and libraries.

Registrations are now open and all of this is available for $495 (if you
register before May 9) to members of the ASA and ALIA in keeping with
Memoranda of Understanding between these organisations.

Details about the Sneak Preview Conference Program and Registering for
the Conference can be found on the ASA website at

http://www.archivists.org.au/2008-conference-perth

You will also find other details about Accommodation Options, Conference
related workshops, tours and seminars, etc., on the website too.

We very much look forward to seeing you at the Conference in Perth in
August for what we believe will be a truly memorable experience.
