Review of the community psychology programme at Waikato

Kia Ora,

Along with the other professional programmes (Clinical, Organisation,
Applied Behaviour Analysis), the graduate programme in community psychology is
undergoing a review. This is part of a wider change process in the Faculty
of Arts and Social Sciences being led by the Dean. As part of that process, a
number of measures are under consideration, including closing some
programmes and reducing staff. Because the School of Psychology has seen a
number of retirements recently, the proposal does not call for staff
cuts within
the School at this stage. However, the Dean has initiated a review of
the professional
programmes and has called for submissions from “staff, students, external
stakeholder and any other interested parties”. Many or most list members
will fit under one or other of those categories.

Submissions can be made in confidence and need to be emailed to Eileen
Fenner, Personal Assistant to the Dean (*eileen.fenner at waikato.ac.nz*
<eileen.fenner at waikato.ac.nz>) by 5pm, Tuesday 6th June.

I would encourage you to make a submission. There is no set format for
submissions and although I have copied the terms of reference below, I don’t
think you should feel obliged to address all – or any – of them: you may
instead wish to write some more general response as you felt was
appropriate.

There is more information in the attachment.

*Terms of** reference*

1. The academic quality of the programmes when benchmarked against
other programmes nationally and internationally.

2. The quality of all the learning experiences of students within the
programmes, including work-integrated learning experiences.

3. The extent to which the programmes meet the needs and requirements
of employers in the Waikato and other regions in New Zealand.

4. The degree to which the programmes meet the requirements of
professional and accreditation bodies nationally and internationally.

5. The relationship with the undergraduate psychology programme, and
the pathways available to students from undergraduate study to the
professional programmes.

6. The degree to which pool of available students for potential
enrolments in the programmes justifies each of the programmes.

7. Any areas of overlap or duplication which could be managed more
effectively either through shared teaching or other means.

8. The research, teaching and community engagement expertise within
the current staffing profile of the School and whether this profile is
sufficient to ensure the provision of high quality programmes.

9. Any other recommendations that the panel wishes to make.

My apologies for cross posting. Do get back to me or other staff in the
programme if you have questions about this.
