Good afternoon

The following email is from Linda Pleass who works with WA's Department of Justice as a Library Officer at Hakea Prison. Some of you may have seen the following email on WAIN if you subscribe - if not, then please see below for information about the prison Vocational Support Officer (VSO) pool recruitment and in particular VSO pool recruitment for prison library officers with the Department of Justice. If you click on the APPLY NOW link you can then gain access to a PDF about the various pool recruitment positions, including the library officer role. [FYI If you scroll down from APPLY NOW you will see a profile on Linda.]

Good luck to those who apply.

Sincerely wishing you all good health as we journey through this surreal time together.

Kind regards
Bec

Subject: [WAIN] bookmarks and LIBRARY JOBS

Thank you all so much for your assistance with my query. I have sourced some from Fremantle Press and will contact other publishers as well. For those people kind enough to offer book marks, I will contact you directly.

Also, you may be interested to know that the Department of Justice is running a recruitment campaign for Library Officer positions. I know it seems like a terrifying job, but I can vouch for the fact that the prisoners treat you very well. I have only every had one prisoner treat me with disrespect in my two years as a prison Library Officer. There will also be other VSO (Vocational Support Officer) positions advertised, including Chef Instructors.

If you are interested, check out the DoJ website<https://www.wa.gov.au/organisation/department-of-justice/vocational-support-officer>.
I'm not sure what level the jobs will be, but I think the highest qualification required for most of the library positions is a Cert IV in library studies.

Plus in the current environment, this is one of the most secure jobs you can have. VSOs and Prison Officers are classed as essential workers.

Please feel free to contact me directly if you want more information on what the job is like.

Cheers,

Linda Pleass| Library Officer | Hakea Prison
