Hi,
Have skills in asking “why”? Proof-reading? Writing? Graphic art? Testing things to try to break them ? Working out easy ways to do things?
Library Carpentry is a worldwide learning project to help library folk (including students) learn about data manipulation tools.
In a couple of weeks there is a worldwide two day “sprint” to work on the material, which welcomes input from all skill levels, including students. You can test the materials (so, the more “novice” you are, the better). You can help with proof-reading. With suggesting simplifications to the material. With graphic art.
Curtin University is involved by hosting a project to extend the Library Carpentry course as part of the Mozilla Sprint on June 1-2.
The best way to learn about these things is to get your hands dirty. This event involves connecting with, and learning from, library tech mentors from all around the world.
Please consider joining in.
Here is some information from Janice Chan in the library who is involved in this.

Curtin is hosting a Perth node of the Mozilla Global Sprint<https://mozilla.github.io/global-sprint/> 1-2 June. It is an opportunity for scientists, educators, artists, librarians, engineers and others come together to contribute to projects supporting open science and the open web.
A full list of projects<https://github.com/mozilla/global-sprint/issues> is available on the MozSprint website. Below are a few projects that may be of interest to the LIS profession:
· Extending Library Carpentry https://github.com/mozilla/global-sprint/issues/35
· Open access to research with CORE https://github.com/mozilla/global-sprint/issues/67
· Open Data Open Minds https://github.com/mozilla/global-sprint/issues/87
· Introduction Course to Digital Humanities https://github.com/mozilla/global-sprint/issues/85
· Author Carpentry https://github.com/mozilla/global-sprint/issues/54
There are many ways for you to participate! You can contribute code or content, do QA (quality assurance) testing; proofreading or writing, visual design and graphic art; comment on project ideas or plans from your own unique perspective… All skill levels are welcome and you don’t have to commit to being at the entire Sprint– drop in for two hours or two days, whatever works for you!
If you’re interested in working on the “Extending Library Carpentry” project, please contact Janice Chan Janice.Chan at curtin.edu.au<mailto:Janice.Chan at curtin.edu.au> so we can connect you to the LC community!
There are only 20 places, so register here: https://ti.to/Mozilla/global-sprint-perth
