Hi,
I heartily recommend the New Librarians’ Symposium as a great event for students. It is run by new grads for new grads and students, and has a very welcoming feel to it.
This year it is being held at the National Library of Australia 24 and 25 June, with tours on 23rd.
Costs are deliberately kept down, but even better is to go along as a volunteer …

Subject: Student volunteer opportunities at ALIA NLS8
Dear Kathryn,
…
We’re seeking current LIS students from the BA (Librarianship & Corporate Information Management) course at Curtin University who would be interested in taking up volunteer roles at NLS8. We think volunteering at a friendly symposium like NLS8 can be a welcoming way for students to gain experience and develop their list of accomplishments while undertaking their courses. They will need to be ALIA members (student membership is perfectly fine).
Students can apply to volunteer through this form https://goo.gl/forms/oRBnbL801SyH3Qwi1<https://goo.gl/forms/oRBnbL801SyH3Qwi1> and we’d love them to tell us a bit about themselves. We’d also like them to submit a short video as part of the application, which will be a chance to practice some creative skills. There are further details on the application form - the extended deadline is 13th March 2017.
Would it be possible to circulate this opportunity to your student cohorts?
Feel free to get in touch or give me a call if you have any questions.
Kind regards,
Steven
