Hi,
All undergraduates (Curtin and OUA-enrolled) should have received an announcement via the Official Communications Channel today. The OCC is different from your email inbox, and is accessed via Oasis. Please check and make sure that you received this, and contact me if you did not.
The announcement tells you about changes to undergraduate units from 2016 onward. We are discontinuing four units, adding four new units and offering several units more frequently than before. The first and the third year pracs will now be attached to two new prac units.
You will still do the same number of units to complete your degree and you do not need to fill in any official forms.
You do, however, need to fill in the "DIY Study Plan" that is provided. You need to work out which semester/study period you want to enrol in each unit, and make sure that you know when you will do your prac. When you have done this, keep it to guide you when you choose your units each semester/study period. If you have any questions, please fill in your DIY Study Plan as best you can and forward it to me with your question.
Most students will just keep enrolling in the next lot of units required, with no real hiccups.
There are a few students who we will contact (probably in December, after we know whether they have passed all their units this semester/study period). These students are those who:
* Have Credit for Recognised Learning for units that are discontinued. They will receive the same number of credit points but will be told which units they still need to complete.
* Have already completed a prac in Librarianship Concepts and Practice or Information Theory and Research but have a new prac unit at that year level in their study plan. They will be expected to complete the coursework in the prac unit at that year level, but will be exempt from the prac component.
* Have completed Management of Records and Archive Services but not Librarianship Concepts and Practice; or have completed Knowledge Management Principles but not Information Theory and Research. These students will get credit for the new prac unit at the relevant year level, but then will complete a practicum when they are enrolled in Librarianship Concepts and Practice or Information Theory and Research.
Once you have read the OCC and filled in the DIY Study Plan I am happy to answer any questions.
