Good Afternoon 

 

Each year the National Trust of Australia (WA) holds a competition that
invites students to engage with their local heritage through narrative
writing and photography. The competition is titled Valuing Our Heritage
Photography & Story Competition. It closes on 30 September 2011. Our aim
is for students to gain an understanding of the value and significance
of Western Australia's unique heritage - historic (built) and natural -
and for them to develop an interest in their local history so they will
act as advocates in the future.

 

Could you assist us by distributing the attached brochure/entry form to
your members. I have also included some words in case you would like to
feature the competition on noticeboards or in newsletters.

 

The competition has been carefully designed to ensure it fits the
guidelines of the Western Australian Curriculum Framework through:

*         Values (Social and Civic Responsibility and Environmental
Responsibility)

*         Overarching Learning Outcomes (particularly 1, 3, 4, 8, 10 and
11) and 

*         Learning Areas of Society & Environment, English, the Arts and
Technology & Enterprise. 

 

The competition also links with the Australian Curriculum: History and
English.

 

Each entry must have its own entry form attached (original can be
copied). Further information for teachers and parents is available on
the National Trust's Education & Learning website -
