Subject: National Career Development Week (Monday 17th May- Friday 21st)
We encourage all Curtin staff to promote the various presentations,
workshops, guest speakers and interactive activities throughout National
Career Development Week to students, in helping them to take active
ownership of their careers and get the life they love, though a week of
though a week of presentations and workshops, guest speakers and
interactive activities.
Don't forget, National Career Development Week is not only for students,
but for all working Australian's in their career development. All events
are open to staff as well. Join us at our staff only "Meet the Careers
Team" on Friday 21st May from 3-4:30pm for a sundowner in Building 599.
Monday 17th May
10-11am: Career Speed Dating: Are You Career Fit? (401.374)
Test your career fitness to see how you can take steps toward developing
a healthy career throughout your worklife.
2-3pm: iPortfolio? What's it all about? (Bankwest Lecture Theatre)
You may have heard of developing your portfolio to assist with applying
for jobs. Find out about the online tool Curtin has developed and is
available for students and staff to use now!!
Tuesday 18th May
10:30am-12pm: 'Positive Uncertainty': A workshop for Arts students about
undefined career paths (302.002)
Completing a Curtin university degree can open many new doors leading to
unknown creative outcomes where beliefs and passions inform your
choices. However, the steps required to reach these outcomes are not
always predictable or obvious, and the journey itself is often just as
important.
Wednesday 19th May
12-1pm: Keynote speaker: Jane Den Hollander. Deputy Vice Chancellor-
Academic. (Norm Duffy Lecture Theatre 210.102)
Find out about Jane's career pathway to date and her career within the
university sector, as she addresses the different roles and positions
she has taken on and what she has learnt from these experiences.
1-2pm: APESMA will be on campus to present "The Value of Professional
Associations." (204. 125).
5-6pm: Careers in International Aid. (302.002)
Interested in a career in International Aid? Unsure of career pathways
are available within International Aid and how to make this happen. Join
our five panellists as they discuss their careers in International Aid.
Thursday 20th May
10-11am: Maximizing your Work Planning and Performance Review for your
Career Development. (307.101).
Join Janice Burmaz- Organisational Development Consultant from the
Organisational Development Unit to learn how to make your Work Planning
and Performance Review a positive experience in enhancing your
development as a professional.
2-3pm: Careers in Research. (204.233).
Ever thought about a career in research? Learn from our three guest
speakers who work in research in the university, not for profit and
government sectors.
Friday 21st May
9-12pm: Student drop in sessions. Building 599.
Come into the Curtin Careers Centre for a ten minute drop in session
with a Career Consultant. No bookings required.
3-4:30pm: Meet the Careers Centre staff sundowner. Building 599. (Staff
only event)
Come to our sundowner to meet the friendly staff and find out more about
the services available to students through the Curtin Careers Centre and
how staff can work with the Careers Centre to provide quality learning
experiences for students and assisting with producing career ready
graduates. Please RSVP your attendance at the event directly to the
Careers centre by 5pm Thursday 20th May careers at curtin.edu.au
