The ALIA New Graduates Group in Victoria invites you to an event at RMIT Library with two recent graduates who have just spent a year offering their skills and expertise as librarians to a developing nation.

Romany Manuell and Susanne Newton both spent 2009 in a library on a pacific island with the Australian Youth Ambassadors for Development (AYAD) Program. The AYAD program places 400 young Australians (18-30) on short-term assignments (3-12 months) in developing countries across Asia, the Pacific and Africa (http://www.ayad.com.au).

Whether you are curious about volunteering yourself, or just interested to hear about Romany and Susanne's adventures, come along and hear about the challenges, rewards and quirks of being a volunteer librarian abroad.

When: Wednesday 12 May; 6:15pm for a 6:30 start
Where: Seminar Room 1, RMIT Library Swanston (Building 8, Level 5, 360 Swanston St, Melbourne)
Cost: $2 (ALIA members & students); $4 (non ALIA)

RSVP to melanie.chivers at rmit.edu.au before Friday 07 May (please specify if you are an ALIA member or student)
