Dear Students
The Dept of Information Studies supports this event and we normally arrange for a bus (sometimes shared with State Library) to take those who wish, up to new Norcia and back . We also cancel classes for this day as most of the staff attend the lecture.
Rebecca Shillington will be the Info Studies contact and she will email you further details on the bus once they come to hand.
Please mark the day in your diary. It's an interesting day, good country food, good company, nice chatty bus ride, and gives you the opportunity to have a look at a place you may not normally visit.
More soon
Regards
Kerry
We are now accepting registrations for the New Norcia Library Lecture. We have had to alter our original programme, but we can still guarantee you an enjoyable and informative day. I hope to see you in New Norcia on Wednesday September 8.
Geraldine Doogue will now pre-record her lecture "Looking Beyond the 24 Hour News Cycle" on to DVD for us to screen. The pre-recording is because her husband has just been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, and he will have a big operation just prior to the date of our lecture, so Geraldine wants to stay with him in Sydney. As she should. As we would if we were in her position. She proposed delivering her lecture live via video-conference, but New Norcia does not have the technology to do this. So we have settled on having the lecture on DVD followed by a live question and answer session of at least 30 minutes with her via web-cam. This means that we can interact live with her from our lecture hall.
You will also get solid professional development from listening to our other speakers. You will hear Margaret Allen, CEO of the State Library of WA, then Jan Rutherford, Manager Liaison Services at Murdoch University, and then finally the well-known historian Geraldine Byrne.
This year, the New Norcia Hotel is providing the lunch which will be served in St Gertrude's.
Morning tea and registration is at 10 a.m. and the programme ends at 3 p.m.
The cost is $77, or $33 for a student. We need registration and payment by August 31. The cost covers lunch, morning and afternoon tea and free entry to Museum/Art Gallery. See below for a registration form.
Please RSVP by email to library at newnorcia.wa.edu.au or by post to Sue Johnson, New Norcia Library, New Norcia, WA 6509. Receipts and ALIA-approved P.D. certificates will be provided on the day of the lecture. Tax invoices will be provided on request. For further details, contact me by email, or by phone on 9654 8060 Wednesdays to Fridays.
