Subject: [WAIN] NLS 2011 - Themes and Committees
Hi All,
I am on a group of new and newish Perth librarians who are putting
together an Expression of Interest to host the New Librarians' Symposium
in Perth in 2011. One of the requirements of the Expression of Interest
is to provide a conference theme...and that's where you come in! We
would love to hear suggestions for the theme, especially if you actually
are a "new librarian"! The 2008 conference had the theme "Breaking
Barriers", which allowed people to present papers about breaking
barriers to employment, breaking barriers to new technologies, breaking
barriers around stereotypes and much, much more. We want people to be
able fit a myriad of topics within our theme so please think big and
make sure your theme will give potential presenters plenty of scope.
Also as part of our expression of interest we need to name a conference
committee, and we would love for your name to be on that list! If you
would like the opportunity to expand your professional networks as well
as your skill base we want to hear from you. Please tell us your name,
and briefly what you think you would bring to the group (could be
personal or professional skills and abilities) and what you would like
to gain from the experience of being on a conference committee.
Inexperience is not a barrier, and we would particularly like to hear
from those in their first three years of employment in the library
sector as well as those still completing their qualification.
To nominate a theme for the conference or to nominate yourself for the
committee, please respond to me by email before COB on Friday, 6
November 2009. If you need any further information please contact me
(details below). Don't forget to check out the conferences page of
ALIA's website to see what previous New Librarians' Symposiums have been
all about (http://www.alia.org.au/conferences/).
Hope to hear from you soon!
