Subject: [WAIN] Position available - Library Manager,Alice Springs
Public Library
"Do you want to get out of your comfort zone? Do you want to come to
the land of opportunity? Do you want to challenge yourself, both in the
workplace, and exploring this marvellous desert country, which is
Central Australia?
I wanted to do all those things. I was fortunate enough to be selected
to manage this amazing library service in 2005, and it is now time for
me to retire. One cannot wait forever, for the superannuation funds to
improve; hence this advertisement.
In four years, I have managed a library which provides resources to
clients living over a 580,000 square kilometre area, some even in WA and
SA. I was Co-Convenor of the ALIA Biennial Conference, held in Alice
Spring in 2008. I have had the privilege of working with some truly
amazing people, both in the public library and in Alice Springs. There
are over 11 libraries in Alice Springs, and the library network is very
strong here. Everyone in Alice Springs has a story to tell. That can
take time, just talking to people!
I have to be honest and say the summers can be very hot, but the winters
are superb. Winter brings out the colours of the red sand, the pinks
and mauves of the ranges, the deep blue of the sky.
Visit places such as Gosse Bluff, Cattlewater Pass, N'dhala Gorge,
Rainbow Valley, Palm Valley, Arltunga, Ruby Gap (the road did defeat us,
but what a drive), Redbank Gorge, Serpentine Chalet, drive the Tanami
Track, drive the Binns Track, follow Explorers Way, enjoy the scenery of
the Mereenie Loop. Enjoy staying at 5 star hotels at Territorian rates,
the only way to stay!
Work with staff who are committed and strive to be innovative, with a
supportive council, in a community that says things like, 'I would have
difficulty living in this town if it weren't for the library.'"
