Archivists
Digital Sustainability / Context Control / Arrangement and Description

Archives New Zealand is the official guardian of the memory of Government in New Zealand. We contribute to the development of New Zealand’s identity and understanding of shared pasts.

We have archivist vacancies in our teams for digital sustainability, context control and arrangement and description.

These roles seek applicants with a degree – preferably from a related field such as History, Political Science or from an Information related field.

Key attributes required for these roles include:

• Comfort and skill using current technologies.

• Demonstrated customer service and relationship management skills.

• A flexible and adaptable attitude to an evolving work environment.

• Proven analytical and self-management skills.

• Experience working with archival or information systems would be an advantage.

Preservation Technician

This role has responsibility for providing preservation and conservation technical support services covering all types of material held by Archives New Zealand.

This is a physically demanding role seeking candidates who will be able to fulfil a variety of practical requirements to the organisations standards.

To be considered for this role, you have:

• Excellent relationship management skills, with experience working in teams. 

• Proven skills in problem solving and high levels of initiative.

• Excellent level of  manual dexterity, attention to detail, and experience in carrying out practical work to a high standard.

• Knowledge of the principles of preservation/conservation would be beneficial. 

• Skills in the Microsoft Office suite to an advanced level.

A driver's license is desirable for this role.

A commitment to Maori and the workings of the Public Sector are also very important for all roles within the Archives NZ environment.
