Please see below for details regarding a short-term Reference Archivist
(HO7) position in the University of Sydney Archives.
The University of Sydney Archives seeks expressions of interest in a
position available now up to the end of 2008 with the possibility of
extension.
The University Archives has several projects in hand and also operates a
busy reference service to internal and external users, in the
search-room and by email and telephone. We are looking for someone who
can perform a range of archival tasks including
* reference services;
* undertaking disposal of University records;
* identifying and documenting records series and processing
consignments;
* preparing documentation and data entry into the new archival control
system, CHAOS.
The successful applicant will have high level knowledge of archival
principles and techniques; high level knowledge and understanding of
records continuum theory; high level knowledge of the NSW State Records
Act 1998; excellent interpersonal and problem solving skills; ability to
work independently and as part of a team; appropriate computer skills,
and the ability to lift and carry archives boxes.
Preference will be given to applicants with experience in the provision
of access to archival records in a research environment, in controlling
and describing records using computer-based systems and data entry, or
experience in the disposal of records in accordance with the State
Records Act 1998.
A tertiary degree plus graduate qualification in archives administration
or related discipline is essential as is eligibility for Professional
membership of the Australian Society of Archivists.
The position is available full-time Monday to Friday, until December
2008 but fewer hours could be negotiated. There is a possibility of
extension into 2009.

Remuneration package: $76,656 - $83,511 p.a. pro rata (which includes a
base salary Level 7 $64,775 - $70,568 p.a., leave loading and up to 17%
employer's contribution to superannuation).
