Just a last-minute reminder to appoint a proxy if you can't get the the APS AGM this Saturday in Brisbane - proxies need to be lodged by 2pm TODAY and voting in the Board elections closes tomorrow morning. Community College Chair Jenny Sharples and Counselling College Chair Melissa Harte are attending the meeting and can take your proxy.

Sorry for spamming you - happy to answer questions if needed.

Subject: Re: [cohb.psychology] APS Board elections - time to vote

Dear colleagues

As those of you who are APS members would be aware, it's APS election time again - this year the process is a lot more complicated (but in some ways possibly simpler) due to the new governance model that was voted in in June this year. All voting is optional preferential, which means it's wise to only number people you could actually live with being elected. You can vote electronically by clicking the Board of Directors button at: https://protect-au.mimecast.com/s/9OVQBkckXDmVFl?domain=psychology.org.au and following the e-trail.
Everyone gets to vote for the President-elect, for which there are 5 candidates, three of whom are previous chairs of the Clinical College.
Academics get to vote for one (or more) of 3 candidates under DPRET (Division of Psychological Research, Education and Training) - ALL psychology academics who are APS members should pay attention to this one - DPRET only gets one rep while the Divisions of Colleges and General Practice will elect a second rep next year - and a quirk in the DPRET membership parameters means that not all candidates actually come from the University/post-secondary sector.
Clinical College members get to choose from 5 nominees, 2 of whom are also standing for president-elect (The other 8 Colleges will get to choose one director between them next year - not as unfair as it sounds because the Clinical College is SO large, and because this means there will always be a non-clinical college director elected within the Division of Colleges, from next year at least).
Registered psychologist APS members who do not belong to a College can elect one director this year and one next year from the Division of General Practice - there are 3 candidates here.
If you fit more than one of the above categories (ie DPRET plus either the Division of Colleges (Clinical this year) or General Practice, which are mutually exclusive, you get to vote twice - lucky you! When you log in your eligible categories will automatically come up - I only got to vote for president-elect this time around 😞 Your vote needs to be in by Friday 6 October to count.

Finally, and perhaps most importantly, if you can't get to the actual AGM on Saturday 7 October in Brisbane, you need to appoint a proxy if you would like to vote on any motions to be decided at the meeting. This includes the crucial 'Spill the Board' motions group which will see all 11 current directors (including those due to step down anyway) voted on individually. I can say here that I don't support these motions, even for the people I might not like, but for more details of the pros and cons you'll need to look elsewhere or ask me privately. I understand that Jenny Sharples (Community College Chair) and Melissa Harte (Counselling College Chair) will be attending the meeting and can take proxies. (You don't need to ask their permission, or anyone else's you might like to nominate - just go online here<https://protect-au.mimecast.com/s/lqmYBasKZxm1cY?domain=investorvote.com.au> or check the AGM notice you should have received from APS last week)
And if you don't think you know the APS candidates well enough to make an informed choice, read their statements and videotaped answers to member questions online - and if all else fails, ask me :)
So do it now (after you've voted YES to marriage equality of course)
Heather
