Just drawing your attention to next week’s annual Social Determinants of Health Alliance (SDoHA) Anti-Poverty Week Oration which will take place at the Koori Heritage Trust on Fed Square – this free lecture is an excellent opportunity for anyone keen to inform themselves on how the Social Determinants of Health (such as poverty and inequality) impact on health, especially in the early years – and what can be done about it form an inter-agency, inter-disciplinary perspective.

ANTI-POVERTY WEEK ORATION
‘Poverty is not destiny’

Wednesday 19 October 2016
11:00am - 12:30pm

Koori Heritage Trust, The Yarra Building, Federation Square

This year’s annual Social Determinants of Health Alliance (SDOHA) Anti-Poverty Week Oration will be delivered by Prof John Eastwood, Director of the Central Sydney Healthy Homes and
Neighbourhoods Integrated Care Initiative, describing sector wide approaches that aim to break intergenerational cycles of poverty and poor life outcomes. The Oration will pick up from Professor Sir Michael Marmot’s recent statement that “Poverty is not Destiny” and describe local evidence-informed interventions that moderate the impact of social determinants of health in homes and neighbourhoods. Professor Eastwood’s Oration will focus on the emerging promise of interagency interventions to building “Community Nests” and child and family resiliency.

For those who may have missed Michael Marmot’s Boyer Lecture series you can listen to them here<http://www.abc.net.au/radionational/programs/boyerlectures/2016-boyer-lectures/7802472>.

The APS is a proud member of the SDOHA.
