This notice and attached newsletter comes from Katie Thomas, who is the Australia-Pacific region coordinator for the Society for Community Research and Action (SCRA), aka Division 27 of the American Psychological Association.

Of special interest is the plan for a one-day gathering in Perth prior to the International Community Psychology Conference in Durban, Sth Africa at the end of May - details in the attachment and further below.

2. SCRA BARN RAISING EVENT: "Mixed Methods for Socially Just Research."

Considering that many SCRA members will be headed to the international Community Psychology Conference in Durban we are offering a one day symposium here in Perth on May 25th: for those en route to Durban. 5 Community Psychologists who have significant experience working in the field will provide a presentation and training in the most powerful techniques or resources for Community Activism/Research or Social Change they have identified over their career and some explanation of their use. By the end of the day participants will have garnered a "toolkit" of excellent community research tools and good understanding of their utility and value. The cost will be minimal:

Subject: Australasian SCRA for 2016

Dear All,

Merry New Year and Happy Everything! I hope you have all had a restful and rejuvenating summer break.

You are receiving this newsletter because you currently are, or have recently been a SCRA Australasian member. If you have let your membership lapse I hope you will consider rejoining.

In an act of solidarity and inclusion US members decided to buffer some of the costs of membership in order to offer significantly reduced fees to non-US members. This is fantastic for us! It means:

*Postgrad students can have a year of FREE SCRA membership!

*Student members can have TWO years for $US15 (about $A10 per annum)

*Non-students can access a full membership option for only $30.

This is incredible value for any professional body let alone one that offers the resources of SCRA!

I hope you will consider joining and/or renewing your membership.

We have good plans for 2016 to support increased networking and collaboration. We hope you will participate!
Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific is not a small region and the possibilities for connection are huge. We have two initiatives to foster this process:

1. MEMBER DRIVE:
We are beginning the year with a membership drive.
This year there is a prize for the SCRA member who links the most new people to SCRA through membership.

There are more details in the attached newsletter. Be in it to win it!

Our last membership drive doubled our membership and we are hopeful this one will be even more successful.
Please think about mentioning SCRA to your colleagues and acquaintances. Anyone with a passion for social justice will find SCRA a helpful resource.
Getting a tipping point of activists in the region would be great. So...GO team!

2. SCRA BARN RAISING EVENT:

Considering that many SCRA members will be headed to the international Community Psychology Conference in Durban we are offering a one day symposium here in Perth on May 25th: for those en route to Durban. 5 Community Psychologists who have significant experience working in the field will provide a presentation and training in the most powerful techniques or resources for Community Activism/Research or Social Change they have identified over their career and some explanation of their use.
By the end of the day participants will have garnered a "toolkit" of excellent community research tools and good understanding of their utility and value.

The cost will be minimal:
$40 per participant and $20 for SCRA members.

This will give great value for new members!
It represents a full return of the $A20 investment of a 2 year student membership and much return of the $30 "electronic journal" membership for academics.
So, these are our beginning ideas. More in the attached newsletter. We look forward to a year of momentum, connection, collaboration and solidarity. Together we can do great things.
In solidarity,
Katie
