Dear colleagues
As those of you who are APS members would be aware, it's APS election time again - this year we have:
9 candidates for 2 Board positions.
You can find vote electronically by clicking the Board of Directors button at: http://www.psychology.org.au/ and following the e-trail.
The APS system is optional preferential, so you only need to number the squares of your preferred candidate(s), and not the whole list - now there's a good idea that could save us all a lot of pain in Federal elections!

Almost all of the 9 candidates are mental health practitioners of some description, with a number of those caught up in the tensions around the 2-tier system of Medicare payments under Better Access. Very few have made any reference to issues of public policy or social justice, or to specific concerns such as Indigenous issues, marriage equality, climate change, cultural competence or refugees. And very few have an organisational or community psychology background, or even a teaching/research/academic role, as opposed to a counselling/clinical focus. Nothing wrong with that of course, but a balance on the Board would be good.

And if you don't think you know the APS candidates well enough to make an informed choice, read their statements and videotaped answers to member questions online - and if all else fails, ask me :)

Heather
