Apologies for any cross-postings, but this is a last-minute reminder about Monday's webinar on Leadership in a Cross-Cultural Context. The panel of speakers is particularly exciting:

Peter Young is the outspoken psychiatrist who first broke the silence around conditions for detainees on Christmas island, Nauru and Manus island. I'm keen to hear what he has to say about professional ethics in such contexts - and what leadership means for resisting the whistleblower restrictions in the Border Force Act, or caring for the needs of refugees like 'Abyan'.

Jasmine Sliger is the dynamic organisational and counselling psychologist who challenges us to engage with worlds, people and cultures beyond our professional and personal comfort zones.

Mathilde Parta has recently returned from her AVI assignment in Jordan's refugee camps.

Each of these people has pushed the boundaries of leadership, culture and notions of 'border protection', and Monday's webinar invites us to share their insights for an hour over lunchtime in the daylight saving states, or a morning cuppa elsewhere. For National Psychology Week, the APS Psychology and Cultures Interest Group (PCIG) is getting in early on Monday, November 2 with a panel on Leadership in a Cross Cultural Context. The webinar will be conducted from 12-1pm AEDST and the cost is $20.
About the presenter(s)
Mathilde Parta is a Counsellor, Art Therapist and Facilitator who spent many months in Jordan as a volunteer with Australian Volunteers International.

Dr Peter Young is a Psychiatrist and former Director of Mental Health Services for International Health and Mental Services who has worked with the refugees in detention in Australia and abroad. Peter has spoken publicly on his serious concerns about conditions in immigration detention and the enforced secrecy surrounding them http://www.abc.net.au/lateline/content/2015/s4212188.htm

Jasmine Sliger is a cross-cultural Organisational and Counselling Psychologist who has worked both with refugees, migrant families and executives in global positions.

It’s a brief moment during our day where we can look at leadership competencies for psychologists working with multicultural issues. Some colleagues may even want to have a lunchtime gathering to discuss some of the issues presented.

Details and registration available now at http://www.psychology.org.au/Events/EventView.aspx?ID=16212

Highly recommended (even for Cup Eve)
