Apologies for any cross-postings, but I thought this was worth sharing with anyone directly or indirectly involved in working with women who have experienced abuse:

The APS College of Counselling Psychologists (VIC) is hosting a free DVD and discussion night Tuesday, 10 November 6:30pm-8:30pm at the Treacy Centre, Parkville,. Refreshments, Coffee, and Tea will be served. See the flyer attached for more details. Contact RaeLynn Wicklein at r.wicklein at latrobe.edu.au<mailto:r.wicklein at latrobe.edu.au> to register.

Timed with the release of the latest edition of InPsych's Oct 2015 cover issue on Domestic and Family Violence and the APS Psychology Week 2015, we will be viewing and discussing Dr Lenore Walker's work with women who have experienced abuse: The Abused Woman: A Survivor Therapy Approach. Dr Lenore Walker has worked with physically, psychologically, and sexually abused women for more than 30 years and has developed an approach to their treatment called Survivor Therapy. In this dramatic recreation of key moments in the two-year course of therapy with Sarah, a 36-year-old battered woman with a history of childhood sexual abuse, Walker illustrates the basic principles of her approach. I am aware that Walker's work in the 1980s-90s in developing the notion of the Battered Woman Syndrome has been subject of much debate and critique within and beyond feminist theory and practice, so I'm keen to get along and hear where what she is doing now.
