[cid:_2_0A15FF500A15FCE4000A2DC3CA257E66]Professor Kerry Arabena has an extensive background in public health, administration, community development and research. Her work has made significant contributions Australia wide in areas such as gender issues, social justice, human rights, access and equity, service provision, harm minimisation and citizenship rights and responsibilities. Kerry has represented Australia in international forums and her professional experience has seen her recognised as an Australian of the year finalist and a nomination in the bulletin magazine's 'Smart 100 Australians' Health and Medical Research category.

This presentation will focus on the strategies Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities are using to address issues of family violence, lateral violence and suicide. Included in this presentation will be information on the extent of violence, the underlying factors associated with violence, the harm caused by it and services used by victims of violence. This presentation aims to increase knowledge so all Australians better understand the issues facing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
