RESEARCHER

  *   Ensure the voices of the poor and most marginalised are heard
  *   International Aid and Development Agency
  *   Part-time role, 15 hours a week – flexibility, healthy work/life balance

An exciting opportunity has arisen with Caritas Australia within the Advocacy team for a skilled Researcher. In a newly created role, reporting to the Manager, Advocacy, working alongside the Campaigns Coordinator and collaborating very closely with the Pacific team, you will be responsible for generating evidenced and best practice research in a discrete project investigating the effects of climate change on the people Caritas Australia works with. This research will contribute to Caritas Australia’s policy influence, advocacy, communications, campaigning and education work, ultimately informing overseas program and partnership needs, and supporting Caritas’ Australia’s mission of serving the world’s poor.

The role

Responsibilities include:

  *   Undertake research and policy analysis and translate the findings into tailored advocacy and communication materials.
  *   Draw on the perspectives of the partners and communities with which we work and incorporate these into CA’s research and policy work.
  *   Build partnerships and share learning with the Caritas Internationalis network, academic institutions, think tanks, NGOs and the broader Australian community.
  *   Strengthen staff and partner capacity in research and policy analysis.
  *   Support staff and field partners in social action research, providing technical assistance on methodology and building capacity in the collection and analysis of data, best practice documentation and dissemination of findings.
  *   Strengthen staff and partner capacity in research, policy analysis and best practice documentation.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required (Selection Criteria)

You will have:

  *   Demonstrated record of applied research, conceptual and analytical skills in the not-for-profit sector.
  *   An understanding of aid and development issues in Australia and overseas.
  *   Experience conducting qualitative research and analysis from primary and secondary sources
  *   Highly developed verbal and written communication skills, with capacity to adapt writing and presentation styles for different audiences.
  *   Demonstrated capacity for working autonomously
  *   Ability to work well with others; show consideration, concern and respect for others’ ideas and perspectives and accommodate different working styles, treating all people with dignity and consistent with CST principles.
  *   Capacity to travel domestically and occasionally overseas.
  *   An understanding of and willingness to work within the Catholic ethos
  *
