Australian Postgraduate Award (Industry): "Sexual health of migrant women from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) groups".
Applications are invited from highly motivated graduates seeking to undertake a PhD as part of the Australian Research Council funded project "Sexual health of migrant women from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) groups". This project is a collaboration between the Centre for Health Research (UWS), Family Planning NSW, the Hills Holroyd Parramatta Migrant Resource Centre, and the Centre for the Study of Gender, Social Inequities and Mental Health, Simon Fraser University, Canada. The chief investigators are Associate Professor Janette Perz, Professor Jane Ussher and Dr Renu Narchal.
The project aims to investigate the experiences and constructions of sexual health for women from a range of recent migrant CALD communities living in Australia and Canada using qualitative methods, in order to understand unmet needs, and inform targeted service provision. Guidelines for programs of sexual health education and promotion will then be developed, and subjected to a formative evaluation, from the perspective of key stakeholders. The PhD student will focus on one area of research within the broader project, working in collaboration with the project team.
The scholarship is open to graduates of psychology, public health, the behavioural or social sciences or related areas.
Support is available for conference attendance and fieldwork costs, both in Australia and overseas. Commencement dates are negotiable.
