Over a packed two days of the 2013 FECCA Conference, we invite you to join us for deep discussion and deliberation focussed on identifying the barriers currently facing members of culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities in Australia.

Together, let’s develop a solid national agenda to identify and address the challenges facing social policy and multiculturalism in Australia.

The conference program boasts an outstanding line-up of speakers, including senior government ministers, opposition spokespersons and leaders from the community, government and business sectors.

The FECCA 2013 Conference program is packed with a full agenda of presentations and discussions around key issues, including aged care, rural and regional settlement, health, employment and more!

Aged Care (7 November, 2pm)

Join us on day one of the Conference to hear leading commentators discuss issues concerning CALD Australians around aged care. Presenters include Marion Lau and Fiona York of the Ethnic Communities’ Council of Victoria, Agnieszka Chudecka of Multicultural Aged Care Inc., Alexis Hughes of DutchCare Ltd, Kelly McDougall of the University of Adelaide and Yvonne Santalucia from Bankstown Area Multicultural Network. The session with be led by past Chair of the Ethnic Communities’ Council of NSW, Emanuel Valageorgiou.

Rural and regional settlement (7 November, 2pm)

Also on day one, an expert panel will deliberate over key issues concerning CALD Australians with regard to rural and regional settlement. The session will include presentations from Mitra Khakbaz and Sebastian Ross-Hagebaum of the Multicultural Development Association, Gail Slocombe of the Ethnic Communities Council of Queensland, Lisa Toh of the Queensland Council for Social Services, Dr Apollo Nsubuga-Kyobe of La Trobe University, Chris Hazelman of the Ethnic Council of Shepparton and Nitesh Raj Pant of the Multicultural Council of the Northern Territory. The session will be led by Chair of FECCA’s Regional Advisory Committee, Ricardo Viana.

Health (7 November, 3:50pm)

On the afternoon of day one, a line-up of key commentators will discuss health issues concerning CALD Australians. Presenters will include Janny Goris of the Queensland Department of Health, Clara Tait, of the Asthma Foundation SA, Odette Tewfik of Family Planning QLD and Tara Henderson of the Heart Foundation. The session will be chaired by Director of Systems and Strategy, Gold Coast Medicare Local, Libby Carr.

Barriers to employment (8 November, 11am)

On day two, a line-up of leading commentators will discuss barriers to employment facing CALD Australians. Speakers will include President of the Australian Council of Trade Unions, Ged Kearney, AMES CEO, Catherine Scarth, and Board Member of the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpretors, Abeselom Nega. The session will be led by FECCA Senior D eputy Chair, Dr Sundram Sivamalai.

He'll be followed by Brisbane band, Izalco, who will be aiming to get you dancing to the infectious rhythms of their Latin American-infused music.
