Subject: Now available online: “Promoting the engagement of interpreters in Victorian health services”

Dear colleagues,

Today Adjunct Professor Murtagh launched the report “Promoting the engagement of interpreters in Victorian health services”, prepared by the Victorian Foundation for Survivors of Torture (Foundation House). Professor Murtagh said the report was a “marvellous achievement” and it “reflects a belief in the cause, [and provides a] clear vision”.

The report documents the findings of a two year study that was undertaken in response to regular reports from Foundation House clients with low English proficiency about not being provided with a credentialled interpreter when accessing health care. Reports from other sources indicate that the issue is widespread and longstanding in Victoria and nationally.

The full report is now available on the Foundation House website, the direct link is: http://www.foundationhouse.org.au/LiteratureRetrieve.aspx?ID=121443

The summary report is attached to this email, please feel free to distribute to interested individuals and organisations.

We look forward to your thoughts about the report and your support in promoting access to health services for people with low English proficiency.

Best regards,

Philippa Duell-Piening
