This might be of interest to those of you in the Perth area. I believe Phil takes an anti-psychiatry perspective (although this is not obvious in the abstract).

Kind regards,

Lauren

TITLE: ANTIDEPRESSANT MEDICATIONS:

Understanding how side-effects can affect results in psychotherapy

ABSTRACT: Antidepressant medications are now prescribed at record levels in Australia.

In 2009-2010 there were 12 million prescriptions for ADPs. However, although

they are promoted as safe and effective, many consumers commit suicide.

Most mental health professionals know very little about these medications, and

would be unable to identify serious side-effects that could signal severe

distress leading to impulsive or extreme acts like suicide.

This seminar gives an introduction to the types of subjective experiences that

your clients may experience, and which may affect parallel psychotherapy. Tools

to help record symptoms and assess severity of distress are explained.
