Subject: Weenthunga Symposium - Listening, Learning and Collaborating - 28 April 2012

Dear Colleagues,

Registrations are now open!! We are hoping as many health practitioners as possible will come from all parts of Victoria to participate in Weenthunga’s first Symposium.

We would also be particularly grateful if you would forward this email invitation to all of your work colleagues who may be interested in contributing to improving First Australian health in Victoria. If you know of organisations, or your health service network, which have e-bulletins, it would be wonderful if you could get the notice included.

Registrations are now open! Weenthunga Health Network’s first Symposium will be held in Melbourne on 28th April 2012.
Listening, Learning and Collaborating
We will hear from respected leaders of national and local Aboriginal health organisations who will speak of their organisations’ visions for First Australians’ health and of strategies that are helping.
We have Mr Justin Mohamed beginning the symposium, presenting on the perspectives of the National Health Leadership Forum and the Close The Gap Steering Committee and Ms Jill Gallagher, CEO VACCHO as the last speaker of the morning. Also invited are the leaders of the Australian Indigenous Doctors Association, the Congress of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Nurses, Indigenous Allied Health Australia & the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers Association.
The symposium will be followed in the afternoon by a workshop discussion to plan collaborative strategies for all of us in our various health roles and disciplines, aimed at improving the health of First Australians in Victoria. This will inform the work of Weenthunga, helping shape its directions and efforts.
The Helen McPherson Smith Trust has generously supported Weenthunga so the registration costs of First Australian members will be fully sponsored, Australian students are offered half price ($45.00), Australian participants’ registration fee has been subsidized (it’s only $90) and assistance with accommodation and travel is offered to First Australian members. Morning and afternoon teas and a lovely lunch are included. Come and meet with like minded colleagues from around Victoria. The Weenthunga Committee is hoping for as many members as possible coming from all parts of Victoria to participate in this Symposium and planning day.
The Symposium will be held at Rydges, 215 Bell Street Preston, selected for its central location and quality facilities.
