Sorry folks, this notice really was too late - the 'Our Generation' film night this Thursday is booked out - but if there's sufficient demand another screening might be possible - perhaps at Vic Uni? And please read on for the rest of the invitation from Weenthunga Health Network.

Hello Heather and all,

We are sorry to advise – the tickets to “Our generation” have sold out.

May we encourage you consider joining Weenthunga and also to pass the email invitation below to colleagues of yours who you think may be interested?

Hello health professionals, practitioners and workers in Victoria,

We are so pleased to be able, at last, to invite you and your colleagues to consider joining the Weenthunga Health Network.

Weenthunga Health Network Inc. is a new collegial Victorian network for all health professionals, practitioners and workers with a desire to see improved health of First Australians. Weenthunga is a First Australian-led network which encourages inter-disciplinary collaboration between Australians and First Australians – at local and regional levels as well as across the State.

We have a strong belief in the value and benefits of collaboration between First Australians and Australians. We are very aware of the level of endeavour of the Australian and State governments, of mainstream and Community Controlled health services and many organisations committed to “Closing the Gap” in Indigenous health. We believe though that our Weenthunga Network has some “yeast to add to the mix” that will help see some progress in meeting the targets in Victoria.

Already our membership of First Australians and Australians is drawn from the fields of: Aboriginal Hospital Liaison; Aboriginal Health Research; Community Development; Dental Therapy; Diabetes Education; Dietetics; Exercise Physiology; General Practice; Health Education; Health Promotion; Medicine; Mental Health Work; Midwifery; Neuropsychology; Nursing; Occupational Therapy; Optometry; Psychiatry; Psychology; Physiotherapy; Podiatry; Social Work; Speech Pathology; and we anticipate members from many more health roles joining is as the word is passed around.

Please join us – it is free (no fees, just goodwill and commitment!) – and it is easy to join. Go to: http://www.weenthunga.com.au/get_involved/membership-form.cfm?loadref=12<http://www.weenthunga.com.au/get_involved/membership-form.cfm?loadref=12%20> . On our website you will be able to read more about Weenthunga’s vision and objectives.

Our website is a ‘work in progress’ where we will continue to be uploading documents and adding links to other relevant websites and resources. Within the members’ area there are also online discussion forums which members can join – and can even set up new discussion topics.

Warm regards,

Kelli & Lin

Hi everyone (and apologies for cross-postings)

 – a screening of the film “Our Generation” at the Westgarth Cinemas on Thurs 26th May (Sorry Day).

Although Sorry Day is really about the Stolen Generations and not the NT Intervention, it still seems timely to be viewing this film, which raises all sorts of challenges around colonisation, vested interests and and where indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians need to be directing our energies.

Bookings are essential - to purchase tickets email lin at weenthunga.com.au<mailto:lin at weenthunga.com.au> – before 3rd May (oops - I hope that's not a literal deadline! Better do it now)

Heather

Dear Heather,

It would be great if you could distribute this to your Victorian colleagues:

Weenthunga Health Network Inc. is a new collegial Victorian network for all health professionals, practitioners and workers with a desire to see improved health of First Australians. Weenthunga is a First Australian-led network which encourages inter-disciplinary collaboration between Australians and First Australians – at local and regional levels as well as across the State.

We would like to invite you to come to our first event – a screening of the film “Our Generation” at the Westgarth Cinemas on Thurs 26th May (Sorry Day).

This is a film in which Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders and community members talk about the devastating impact of the Australian Governments’ Northern Territory Intervention. Many highly regarded and respected First Australians and Australians are keen for this film to be seen by as many people as possible. For more information on the film, go to: http://www.ourgeneration.org.au/

The ticket price of $25 includes: a comfortable seat in Cinema 2; live music and songs from Tonchi McIntosh; the possibility of winning a fantastic door prize; and a donation towards the cost of the development of the Weenthunga Website.

To purchase tickets email lin at weenthunga.com.au<mailto:lin at weenthunga.com.au> – before 3rd May.

The collect your tickets from 6.00 to 6.30pm at the Westgarth Cinemas, 89 High Street, Westgarth. The event begins at 6.45pm sharp.

Looking forward to seeing a full house on the 26th May.
