This VLGA training workshop on Women's Health is a great opportunity to
learn about getting women's health and wellbeing on your local
Government's agenda.

The VLGA with WHIN and Women's Health West invites you to unravel the
mysteries of

Getting women's health on your Local Government agenda

 

Do you want to achieve this goal?

A practical workshop:

for Councillors, Local Government officers and community workers who

want to influence and work with their Local Governments to do so.

 

Facilitated by:

* Liana Thompson Victorian Local Governance Association (VLGA)

Liana has been involved in Local Government as a Mayor, Councillor and
Director for nearly 20 years. She is a founding VLGA

member and Inaugural VLGA President, has been a Ministerial Adviser and
is in the Who's Who of Australian Women

 

* Kathleen Maltzahn Women's Health in the North (WHIN)

As well as being Executive Director of WHIN, Kathleen has been an
elected Councillor with City of Yarra. Her work against the

trafficking of women for prostitution includes 'Trafficked', shortlisted
for the 2009 Human Rights Award for Non Fiction Literature.

She is a recipient of the Inaugural National Council of Women (Victoria)
Dame Phyllis Frost Award.

 

This workshop is interactive and you will come away with a better
understanding of:

* Strategies to achieve better health and well being for women in the
community

* How to build relationships between community organisations,
Councillors and senior Council

officers to support women's health

* How to influence Councillors and your Council agenda - both
politically and administratively

* Strategies to develop productive working relationships with Local
Governments

* Maximising opportunities to strengthen your Local Government's roles
in women's health

* Successful practices in women's health and well being at the local
level.

 

All of this is timely as your new Councils consider their priorities!

When: Saturday 4 April 2009 12.45 for 1.00pm start -4.30pm

Where: VLGA 60 Leicester St Carlton (near corner Queensberry St)

Fees: $90 (pp full fee) or $75 (pp if you bring along a colleague from
within your organisation)
