Background to CERES  

CERES is an environmental community organisation in East Brunswick, Melbourne. CERES is located on 4 hectares of land on the banks of the Merri Creek and has become an icon of locally based education and action on environmental and social-justice issues.  

Projects encompassed within CERES include local and community projects (eg, Community Gardens and Chook Group, Bicycle Users Group, Bread- making Group), educational programs for schools (both environmental and cultural ), accredited training programs, non-profit income generating programs (café and nursery),  recreational activities and courses for adults and children,  celebratory festivals ( including the Kingfisher Festival, Harvest Festival) and a volunteer program.  

CERES projects and staff are organized into Teams: Education and Training Team, Habitat Team, Community and Governance Team and the Enterprise Team.  Supporting the day to day running and management of staff within the teams are Area Managers who comprise the Managers Working Group.  There are 3 Team Leaders, working across each of the teams and who are ultimately accountable to the CERES Board.    

This role includes: 

·         Analysing and prioritising potential and target markets for different styles of functions and venue hirers. 

[These include weddings & commitment ceremonies, seasonal celebrations, seminars, conferences, meetings, arts practice and community workshops and training.]

·         Developing a strategic plan for reaching these markets.  

[These may include: community groups, local government groups, other environmental organisations, welfare groups and businesses.   Several spaces at CERES will be available for hire, and include a community kitchen, multipurpose rooms, and beautiful outdoor spaces.]

·          Promoting and communicating about CERES generally.   Including regular Email updates, CERES stalls, liaising with media as required and updating CERES information on the Website.

·         seeking  media opportunities with an emphasis on promoting the new Green Initiatives that CERES will be undertaking in this time period, as well as promoting the new Centre. 

The contract is for 14 hours a week for 6 months @ $30 p/h, (inc GST) paid fortnightly, with potential for future ongoing opportunities.  

The distribution of this time will be co-negotiated by the applicant, the functions manager, the manager of the new building and the communications team manager. The marketing and promotions officer will report to each of these managers.

Preference will be given to the qualified applicant who has experience in working with a culturally diverse community and those with experience in function venues.
