'Environmental Attitudes and Actions in Context'

A One-day Workshop hosted by the Australian Psychological Society

Saturday 27 September - Hotel Grand Chancellor, Hobart Tasmania

Presenter: Professor David Uzzell

Professor David Uzzell was the first Professor of Environmental
Psychology appointed in the UK, at the University

of Surrey. His research is in the area of sustainable development with a
focus on social psychological approaches to

encouraging behaviour change, particularly in relation to waste,
transport and energy. Professor Uzzell is the featured

keynote speaker at the 43rd APS Annual Conference.

This workshop will provide a review of research methodologies and
findings on environmental behaviour change,

including social marketing techniques, identity theory and social norms.
There will be interactive sessions to collect data

from workshop participants on their perceptions of environmental issues,
followed by analyses of this material in order

to understand how environmental attitudes and practices are socially
situated.

The workshop will be invaluable for anyone working in environmental
policy settings (e.g. national, federal and

local government); psychologists working on behaviour change programmes;
and doctoral students especially in

environmental, social and political psychology.

Professor Uzzell is the British Psychological Society's environmental
spokesperson to the EU and other European bodies.

He is one of the project leaders on a three year ESRC-funded
interdisciplinary project called RESOLVE, which is examining

the links between lifestyle, societal values and energy consumption. He
has recently started research examining the

ways in which trade unions in the "North" and the "South" respond to the
dual challenge of a globalising work

division and globalising environmental degradation. He was recently a
consultant to the EU-funded seven country

ChangeLAB Project (Changing Lifestyles, Attitudes and Behaviour) which
has sought to devise practical proposals for

promoting sustainable patterns of consumption at the local/regional
level.

Cost: $445 for the day, including lunch and refreshments (discounts
apply for conference delegates and APS
