"It's in the bag!"

'It's in the Bag' is a project designed by a group of Community
Psychology students at Victoria University who wanted to develop an
environmental intervention for children that would not only encourage
positive thinking and action in children, but also lead to the transfer
and uptake of healthy environmental behaviours by their parents. The
project formed from the basis that reducing plastic bag use was becoming
a prominent media and government issue within Australia, coupled with
the negative psychological reactions from many children about
environmental problems (Australian Psychological Society, 2008). What
developed was an educational DVD accompanied with a cloth/'green' bag
decorating activity that allowed children to become involved in talking
about plastic bags and their effect on the environment to other children
and adults. The development and results of the project will be presented
by the students involved, followed by a discussion of some possible
future directions.
