A  postgraduate unit of study offered by the School of Psychology,
Faculty of Arts, Education and Human Development


 


Semester  2, 2007


More than ever, enlightened health promotion policy is targeting the
contexts that give rise to healthy lifestyles and safe, supportive
communities. This unit gives students the opportunity to: 

*	Learn about social health issues in local and international
settings 
*	Understand how wellbeing is achieved by the simultaneous and
balanced satisfaction of personal, relational and collective needs 
*	Apply theories and principles of health and community psychology
to real situations

 

When will this unit of study be offered? 

When:  Beginning July 31st 

Times:  Mondays  5.30-7.30pm 

Lecturer:  Professor Jill Astbury 

 

Professor Jill Astbury is Research Professor in the School of
Psychology; her broad research interest is health and human rights. Her
career has focused primarily on investigating how social position,
gender and the violation of rights impact on mental health, emotional
well being and health seeking behaviours. Her expertise has led her to
undertake research for state policy development as well as with
international institutions such as the World Health Organisation.

Complete an Enrolment Form or an Enrolment Amendment form, which must be
signed by the unit  lecturer. The form will then be lodged with the
Student Centre. The School of Psychology will contact you to confirm
your enrolment, and to advise you of textbook requirements.

 

A  limited number of places is available for this Unit. To make sure
that you are included and guaranteed a place, contact the staff listed
above as soon as possible.

 

What does it cost?

Students will pay fees in a similar way to their other units of study.
Also available as a stand alone unit. You do not need to already be
enrolled at VU, provided you already have a relevant undergraduate
