Subject: [Commpsych] Call for Papers

Dear Colleagues

Please see below and attached the call for papers for the Special Issue of
ACP on Place-based practice, research, & theory

Dawn

Australian Community Psychologist

Call for papers: Special Issue: Place-based Practice, Research and Theory.

Guest Editor: Colleen Turner (Communities for Children)

Editor: Dawn Darlaston-Jones (University of Notre Dame, Australia)

Place-based research and place-based interventions have a long history to
which community psychology has contributed. This special issue seeks to
further add to this body of evidence which is practice-based, accessible and
relevant to practitioners and researchers.

Specifically, within this Special Issue the Editors introduce Communities
for Children, a large scale initiative for communities funded by the
Australian Federal Government. This scheme aims to improve the outcomes for
children and families in areas identified as 'disadvantaged' by developing
and implementing local strategies for children aged 0 to 5 years, their
families and the community, through participation and collaboration with the
community. The Broadmeadows Communities for Children site forms a small
geographic corner of the City of Hume in the North West of Melbourne. The
area has long been subject to significant economic disadvantage and
demonstrates associated vulnerabilities. Broadmeadows and surrounding
suburbs constitute a vibrant multicultural centre with many strong,
well-established community groups that are articulate, skilled and active in
working for and with their communities.

The purpose of the Special Issue is to invite submissions that contribute to
the evidence on community collaboration and the complexities inherent in
place-based interventions and research.

The two segments of this special issue compliment each other with the
specific Broadmeadows papers providing a detailed case study on one such
place-based intervention and the second section inviting papers from local
and international practitioners and researchers on place-based practice and
research.

Consequently we are seeking papers that:
* are directly relevant to practice within Broadmeadows and
surrounding suburbs
or

* provide examples of applied practice or research within a
place-based or neighbourhood- based context, and which operate within a
community development/capacity building and/or partnership context
or

* that explore other aspects of place-based research or
interventions .

For example, authors might:
* Demonstrates strengths and resilience among community(ies)
* Provide examples of innovative practice
* Consider service provision (community services, health or
education) within communities
* Demonstrate the effectiveness of community partnerships
* Consider the complexity of demonstrating change/improvement
in outcomes at a community level

Review Process
All papers submitted will be blind-reviewed by a minimum of two reviewers.
Reviewers will be selected on their ability to critically engage with the
material presented in the manuscript.
