[MCASIlaris] PRACTICUM PLACEMENT APPLICATIONS DUE BY MONDAY 23 MARCH 2026

Dear Libraries, Archives, Records and Information Science (LARIS) students

This is important information for both Curtin and Open Universities Australia (OUA) students who are enrolled in SSP2/SP2/SSP3/SP3 and S2 2026 units with a practicum placement requirement.



Applications for practicum placements are due by Monday 23 March 2026.



Please note:

  *   If you have already completed the placement requirements for your course or have already submitted your application (or applications), thank you, you don’t need to do anything further.
  *   If you are not sure whether you need to apply at this time, please read on, as this is explained below.
  *   Please note that the call for 2026/2027 summer placements, for students enrolled in Research and Evaluation SSP4/SP4 and Masters Professional Experience S1/SP1, will circulate at the commencement of SSP3/SP3 2026.



Do you need to apply now?

If you are enrolled in or planning to enrol in any of the following units in the study periods listed below, you should apply now.

INFO5009 INF520/INFO5044 Research and Evaluation

SSP2/SP2

INFO5003 INF540/INFO5046 Digital Preservation

SSP2/SP2 or SSP3/SP3

COMS6002 COM600/COMS6006
Masters Professional Experience

S2 or SP3



Please note, Research and Evaluation and Digital Preservation have a pre-requisite of 75 credits completed before attending a practicum placement; the internship unit Masters Professional Experience has a pre-requisite of Research and Evaluation. Placements can be completed before, during, or one study period after a unit with a practicum placement requirement, if pre-requisite requirements are met. Placements can generally be completed full time or part time.



Please note that special study periods [SSPs] relate to Curtin students and study periods [SPs] to Open Universities Australia (OUA) students. SSPs and SPs are aligned:

SSP1/SP1 Monday 2 March 2026 to Sunday 31 May2026

SSP2/SP2 Monday 1 June 2026 to Sunday 30 August 2026

SSP3/SP3 Monday 31 August 2026 to Sunday 29 November 2026

SSP4/SP4 Monday 30 November 2026 to Sunday 28 February 2027

Please read the Practicum Manual very carefully as it provides detailed instructions on the application and placement process. It also includes information on applying for equivalency for the placement, should you have industry experience.
