Curtin Library Internship Program 2024
As a result of a partnership between the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC), Curtin University’s Centre for Crop and Disease Management (CCDM) and Curtin University Library, a paid internship has become available to Libraries, Archives, Records and Information Science (LARIS) students. Led and hosted by the Library, the internship provides an opportunity for motivated students to gain valuable professional experiences in research librarianship. Success in securing the internship may provide experience for an equivalency application for the placement or internship in your course.
The full value of an internship is up to $15,000, paid as non-taxable scholarship
Opportunities and expectations
In addition to learning aspects of library research support services, in particular research data management, the intern will complete a project under the supervision of a specialist in the Library team. Interns also have the opportunity to attend networking and professional development events.
As a condition of the award, the intern will be expected to:
* Dedicate at least 22.5 hours per week (3 full days) for the duration of the internship.
* Demonstrate satisfactory progress through a check-in session 2 weeks into the role, meeting attendance, progress reports and supervisor feedback
* Complete a written report and give an oral presentation of the final project output to the Library, LARIS and other relevant teams.
* Comply with the Curtin University Code of Conduct.
* Ensure that this scholarship will not negatively impact other scholarships they are receiving.
Duration and location
The program runs for 6-10 weeks starting as soon as practicable, depending on the intern’s availability, and needs to be completed before the end of 2024. The intern will be expected to work on site in the Library located in Bentley. Work from home, part time and other flexible work arrangements may be negotiated.
Eligibility criteria
* Currently enrolled in a LARIS course at Curtin
* Interest in advancing your career in the academic and research library sector
* Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills
* Completion of the units Telling Stories with Data, Knowledge Organisation and Metadata, and Libraries as Organisations is highly desirable.
