Hello all LARIS students
I encourage you to consider applying for the Edna Maskell Scholarship<https://scholarships.curtin.edu.au/Scholarship/?id=6936>. Any student enrolled in a LARIS course (old and new) and who has completed 75 credits or more is eligible.
The Scholarship supports students enrolled in a postgraduate course in Libraries, Archives, Records and Information Science, to enable practicum placements or professional development opportunities (e.g. industry conference) that will enhance their studies and increase their opportunities after graduation.
The Scholarship is $3000 and can be used to pay for travel, accommodation, conference/workshop registration, etc related to a placement or professional development events that are relevant to a LARIS course. Applications are due by 6th March - the application form is very easy to complete.
Some examples of events that you could attend in 2024 are:
June: American Library Association Annual Conference<https://2023.alaannual.org/>, Chicago, Illinois
July: VALA - Libraries, Technology and the Future<https://www.vala.org.au/conferences/https:/www.vala.org.au/conferences/> in Melbourne
July: CILIP Conference<https://cilipconference.org.uk/>, Birmingham, UK
August: Archives*Records<https://www2.archivists.org/am2024>, Chicago, Illinois

October: Opening the Archives<https://www.archivists.org.au/conference/conference>, Christchurch, NZ
November: Library Assessment Conference<https://www.libraryassessment.org/> in Portland, Oregan
November: RAILS - Research Applications in Information and Library Service, Curtin University.
... but this is just the tip of the iceberg and there may be workshops or other events that "will enhance your studies and increase your opportunities after graduation".
Please contact me if you'd like to discuss possible opportunities or the Scholarships office if you'd like more information about the process.
Best wishes
Gaby
