On Thursday 16 March 2023, the Australian Society of Archivists (WA) will host its first Branch event for the year in the Geographe Room,  State Library of Western Australia commencing 5:15pm.  Our guest for this event will be Dr Leisa Gibbons, Archives Program Manager at the State Records Office of Western Australia.

In this presentation, Leisa will introduce Digital Discovery, an SROWA strategy designed to meet the whole-of-government need for managing State archives -- across the State and in the State Archives Collection, held by the State Records Office -- as well as ensure the requirements of the State Records Act 2000 are met.

Dr Leisa Gibbons has had a 15-year career in the records and information professions including experience as an educator in higher education in Australia and the US, as well as employment in large and small corporate, government and non-government business, and community sectors. Leisa is an archivist researcher and strategist whose passion is understanding how and why people value archives, particularly in the digital environment.

This presentation will be interactive, with the audience providing real-time feedback in response to the strategy via their mobile technologies.

The F A Sharr Award is named after Francis Aubie (Ali) Sharr, State Librarian in Western Australia from 1953 to 1976, in recognition of his contribution to libraries and librarianship in Western Australia and to the profession more broadly.

The award was inaugurated in 1976 when the F A Sharr Medal was presented to the late Mrs Jean Ryding, a Western Australian student of librarianship.

The award is now presented to a Western Australian librarian, teacher librarian, or library technician within their first four years following graduation, who exhibits the most potential to make a significant contribution to the library profession in WA.
