The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the delivery of efficient, effective, accessible, customer-focused library services that meet community needs.  Additionally, this position will focus on the planning, promotion, delivery and evaluation of programs and services for children and young people, including outreach activities and special events, nurturing a lifelong association with libraries and literacy for educational and recreational purposes.

The Library and Young People’s Services Officer will also be required to build effective working relationships with internal teams, external agencies, organisations, and other stakeholders.

To be successful in this position, you will need to demonstrate the following:


  *   Relevant tertiary qualification in Library and Information Studies or Education or Community Services and/or a minimum 2 years’ experience in a similar role.
  *   Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  *   Excellent customer service skills.
  *   Well-developed time-management and organisational skills.
  *   Comprehensive computer and administrative skills with the capacity to adapt to new technologies and software.
  *   Demonstrated ability in the planning, promotion and delivery of high quality, creative and innovative children and youth services programs and events.
  *   Flexibility to work rostered hours according to operational requirements, including some weekend work.
  *   Current Western Australian Driver’s Licence
  *   Current Satisfactory National Police Clearance
  *   Valid Working with Children Check

This permanent position is a level 3a which attracts a salary of $70,527.91 inclusive of salary, superannuation, housing, and district allowances (if eligible). Team Leader Library

About the role

The Team Leader Library is responsible for managing day-to-day operations and delivering contemporary and customer-focused library services that meet the learning needs of the City’s diverse community. Working across four libraries, the Team Leader Library also develops quality partnerships with external stakeholders to strengthen community relationships inline with the City’s learning strategy.

Covering an internal secondment, this is a full-time temporary role from February to September 2023.

Reporting to the Service Lead – Community Learning and Capacity, you will undertake duties such as:


  *   Lead a large team of library staff, providing guidance and advice in daily operations
  *   Drive excellent customer service levels and a community library experience that is welcoming and engaging
  *   Develop external community partnerships to support delivery of priorities identified in the City’s learning strategy
  *   Identity and develop service improvement initiatives that enhance operations and programs
To be successful, you will have:


  *   Minimum 3 years’ experience in a team leader/management position
  *   Proven experience in directing and coordinating professional delivery of library services
  *   Strong leadership skills - demonstrated ability to drive positive team performance and culture, and effectively manage staff and volunteers
  *   Highly customer focused and able to role model and coach team members in providing excellent customer service
  *   Demonstrated experience in developing partnerships with community groups/external stakeholders
  *   Excellent organisational skills - ability to manage competing priorities and plan work schedules of others
  *   Project management experience and excellent technology and digital literacy skills
