APOLOGIES FOR CROSS POSTING

Dear Libraries, Archives, Records and Information Science (LARIS) students

This is an important email for both Curtin enrolled students and Open Universities Australia (OUA) enrolled students needing to undertake a practicum.



Applications for 2021/2022 summer practicum placements are due by Monday 6 September 2021. Instructions on the application process are provided below, please read to the end. If you have already submitted your application, thank you. You can ignore this email. If you are not sure whether you need to apply at this time, please read on, as this is explained below.



Do you need to undertake a summer practicum?

Undergraduate students:

Ø  Have you completed all the first year units AND have yet to apply or complete the first year practicum requirement?  YES/NO

Ø  Are you intending to complete the undergraduate course this year AND have yet to apply or complete the third year practicum requirement? YES/NO

Ø  Are you enrolled in the third year practicum unit INFO3009/INFO3008 Information Services Professional Practicum in SP3/S2, 2021 or intending on enrolling for SP1/S1 2022 and yet to apply for a practicum placement? YES/NO

Ø  If you answered YES to any questions then you are required to undertake a two-week full-time practicum (first year students) and/or a three week full-time practicum (third year students).

Ø  Please note if you intending on enrolling in INFO3009/INFO3008 Information Services Professional Practicum in SP3/S2 2022 you are encouraged to apply now to ensure a plan is mapped out for placement completion prior to the undergraduate course closure in November 2022.



Graduate Diploma and Master of Information Management students:

Ø  Are you enrolled in INFO5023/INFO5022 Management of Information Services for SP3/S2, 2021 and have yet to apply or complete the practicum? YES/NO

Ø  Are you intending on enrolling in INFO5030/INFO5009 Information Theory & Research in SP1/S1, 2022? YES/NO

Ø  If none of the above, are you intending to complete the Graduate Diploma or MIM course this year AND have yet to apply or complete the practicum requirement/s?  YES/NO

Ø  If you answered YES to any questions then you are required to undertake a three-week full-time practicum, possibly two if enrolled in the MIM.



Information regarding practicum placements is available in Blackboard. If you are not reading this in Blackboard, please go to your Blackboard home page> My Organisations>Libraries, Archives, Records and Information Science (LARIS) Practicum Documents>Practicum Documents. If you can't access Libraries, Archives, Records and Information Science (LARIS) Practicum Documents in Blackboard email the Practicum Program Coordinator requesting access.



Once in Blackboard LARIS Practicum Documents: Please read the Practicum Manual very carefully as it provides detailed instructions on the application process. It also includes information on applying for equivalency for the placement, should you have industry experience.



ALL completed documents must be emailed as attachments to MCASIPrac at Curtin.edu.au<mailto:MCASIPrac at Curtin.edu.au> from your Curtin email address by the deadline: Monday 6 September 2021.
