LOCAL STUDIES LIBRARIAN
38 Hours per fortnight - $68,780 to $76,422 per annum pro rata
4 Weeks Annual Leave

The Town of Cambridge has recently embarked on a journey to transform the organisation to one that is accountable and high performing, which also has a progressive and positive culture. The organisation is now very much focussed on developing and ensuring a vibrant and sustainable future for the Town, one that better reflects the needs of the community. An organisational restructure has seen a new opportunity for a Local Studies Librarian.
The Local Studies Librarian will develop and coordinate the local studies collection including books, photographs, oral histories and local newspaper/ newsletter and memorabilia to preserve the history and culture of the Town of Cambridge. Accordingly, the successful candidate will have the skills and knowledge to;
* Securely store and effectively catalogue, classify and index local studies items.
* Assist library customers and Council staff in locating internal and external resources for local studies.
* Facilitate local studies input into strategic planning process and make recommendation for the incorporation of local studies in library policy, planning and service development.
* Prepare and monitor the annual budget for Local Studies Services and source funding as appropriate.
* Develop engaging articles about the local studies collection for submission to the local newspapers.
* Develop and implement programs to engage the community in the local studies collection and as appropriate involve the Council's Oral History coordinator
* Prepare reports on local studies matters as relevant, to the Manager Community Services.
* Develop cooperative relationships with other organisations involved in local studies/ heritage.
* Assist with general customer service enquiries and other service duties as required for relief or during peak times.
* Work cooperatively with other library staff to raise the profile of local studies collection and facilitate an integrated approach to library operations.
* Maintain awareness of relevant legislation and policies to ensure local studies activities are aligned with requirements.
