On behalf of the conference Advisory Group, I would like to alert and invite you to the State Heritage and History Conference held in Perth.
It offers another opportunity to network with professionals in the Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museum (GLAM) sector. This GLAM sector WA State conference is held every two years.

There are many reasons why you should get online and register. The 5 main reasons why you and your colleagues should attend is that it has been specifically designed for those that work in the  Western Australian Heritage and History sector wishing to gain valuable insights and experience.

The program has been developed via an Industry Advisory Group across the sector to deliver a better understanding of the theme of  ' Handle with Care' which will cover a wide range of  streams which will explore the threats facing WA’s places, stories and collections, including the environment, time, misuse, neglect and misguided good intent. It will also explore other elements of heritage, history and collections that may need to be ‘handled with care’. I am very excited at the prospect of visiting Perth for this really important and brave conference, not least because there is a huge museum project under way there, as I write.

I feel that museums are at great risk of pandering to political (and, sometimes, public) expectation, which often means ignoring great swathes of history such as the many dark sides of colonialism; I wish to explore what this means for museums, their integrity, their ethical positioning, and their future as trusted places.
