:)

Just occurred to me that you may not have been told about the change from HUM-DIS to MCASIlaris when they changed our name last year? I posted details of the event there. Subscription details are here: https://lists.curtin.edu.au/mailman/listinfo/mcasilaris

Hi Leisa

Thanks for taking the initiative with this! I will add the poll to my BB units on Monday; I was waiting for the “official invitation email” to the face-to-face event that I could copy and paste as a reminder to do so, but must have missed it. Still feeling a bit snowed under with things to do…

I think your poll is great – when I taught previously I was always reluctant to post an invite to a Perth event to all students, knowing that most of them cannot make it even if they’d like. Having the survey just after the event invite on BB is good, it shows that we are aware of that and are trying to do something about it.

At this stage, I don’t think it matters too much what the online version of the f2f event looks like (and it depends on the answers you get anyway), there is a bit of time to work that out.

Kathryn, I think you are right with what you said in your email about needing to promote the course, and also, this is with my Alumni president hat on, having LARIS, LARISA and CURTIS (:)) working together on an online presence would be great.

Regards

Petra

Thanks Kathryn and hello all,

If you could let me know if you have shared the poll with your classes I would appreciate it. If you don't think it is useful to ask this of students, please also let me know. Happy for feedback.

I am not looking to explore issues of marketing or a place for students past and present to meet. Just looking at logistics and willingness of participation in an online meet and greet.

The issues outlined by Kathryn below are important and would be great to discuss more formally in a LARIS meeting and explore how much of a priority it is right now.

Thanks,

Leisa

I think considering something else is a good idea.

We had 10 responses to the welcome event today after I posted it to MCASI – with 4 of them “can’t make it”. A couple were keen to get more info from the professional associations and CURTIS.

I think it would be really useful for us to create a better connected online/social kind of space for LARIS … and coordinate our general “outward facing” events a bit better. We now have the welcome to semester events, celebratory drinks for graduands, a prize-giving event on the cards, which could all possibly expand to involve our online students, industry, CURTIS and Alumni.

We don’t really have an “external” marketing strategy to partners outside of LARIS and to potential students, nor really a very coherent “internal” marketing strategy where our students (and university colleagues) can go to find out more about what is happening with LARIS. (For example a place to post details of the welcome to semester that has it’s own URL and can be found again, or links/info to the professional associations, CURTIS, past events, alumni news, LARIS research. Last semester Sienna the ALIA rep managed to make it to the welcome event and leave straight to the airport, but was going to create a little movie instead. Somewhere to post that would have been great).

Curtin marketing and IT limits what we can publish online and the types of spaces we can create there, and our own busyness limits the time we can spend .. BUT… I think it’s worth trying to create something a bit more inclusive for the online students, and a bit more coherent with our social contact with the outside world and our students. The question is what and how?

Cheers,

Hi everyone,

At last week’s orientation the possibility of an online meet and greet session was discussed briefly. I thought it would be useful to at least get an idea if our students would like something like this and how it might run, so I created a quick poll. I sent it to my ACP students this morning and wonder if you could do the same? I am not making promises of running anything and hope I am not stepping on toes but just thought we could canvas the idea with the students?
