Want an awesome Professional Development activity before uni goes back? Want to meet future employers and co-workers in an informal environment? Want to know what the people who work in libraries are thinking about? Or want to know about? If so, come to
Melbourne for Library Camp 2014!

So what is Library Camp 2014?

Library Camp is a FREE one-day unconference. Essentially during the registration process you indicate what you would like to hear about on the day and/or indicate whether you would like to facilitate a session on a particular topic. The on the day audience
votes on the program.

When and Where is it being held?

It is to be held at RMIT Library (City Campus) on Friday 7th Feb from 9:30-4:00.

How does it work?

The unconference works on five guiding principles and one law. Check out the Wikipedia entry for Open
Space Technology Guiding Principles and One Law for more details. They are:

Whoever comes is the right people

Whenever it starts is the right time

Wherever it happens is the right place.

Whatever happens is the only thing that could have .

When it’s over, it’s over.

Law of Two Feet: If at any time during our time together you find yourself in any situation where you are neither learning nor contributing, use your two feet, go someplace else.

Why should I go?

Here are 5 reasons:

Excellent free professional development opportunity.

The opportunity to be an active participant in discussions and for participants to be
challenged and
stimulated.

An alternative to the traditional conference attendance.

Strategic relevance to all libraries - The topics are determined by the participants hence it is an opportunity to talk about what is going on at the coal-face and what is truly important
to participants. They decide.

Excellent networking opportunities. People from all levels and many different types of library attend. Students and people in allied professions also attend. You can’t get better than that.

Over the years topics have ranged from Design thinking, lightning talks on what is happening in people’s libraries, technology how-to’s, Imagine there is no desk, gamification, community generated content, engaging 1st year students, apps and
app development, cataloguing- why it lives and more- There is something from every department, in every library type, to stimulate discussion. It is one big water cooler discussion day.

Benefits include:

flexibility (choose on the day the sessions you want to attend)

networking (you can network your socks off)

topics voted on by participants (on the day we decide what to talk about)

create your own session (you can create a session for the day – if the people want it it will be in)

awesomeness

creativity

free
