Commencing April 2011

Shell Development (Australia) Pty
Ltd (SDA) is the exploration, production
and gas commercialisation part of Shell’s Australian business, referred to
internally as Upstream International Australia. As a gas growth centre for
the Shell Group, SDA holds large reserves in the North West Shelf, Gorgon,
Browse Basin and Timor Sea fields around Australia. We also maintain a
substantial exploration portfolio in Australia with major representation
in permits and reserves offshore in Western Australia and the Northern
Territory.

SDA is seeking an Archivist to undertake a 6 month contract to assist in
the implementation of our Physical Records Project. The ultimate aim of
the project is to ensure local compliance with the Shell Group (Global)
Records Management Standard. The Project is initiated by the Shell Group
in The Netherlands, and rolled out to the various regions for
implementation in 2011. The Archivist role will be pivotal in ensuring the
Australian Upstream implementation is successful. It is anticipated that
the role will commence in April 2011.

The Project has two related aspects to it that need to be addressed by the
Archivist to ensure compliance and success:

SDA Technical Library

• Analysis: The metadata contents of the Technical Library need to be
uploaded to the Shell Group archive database based in Europe. In order to
achieve this, substantial analysis needs to be done on the contents of the
Library collection to determine and apply appropriate Record Types to the
material. Standard metadata fields need to be generated for the collection
to ensure a smooth upload to the master repository.

Departmental Filing:

• Appraisal: SDA has a number of archive boxes (approx 400) that have not
been formally appraised, described and sentenced. A core element of the
role will involve the Archivist appraising and applying the Shell Group
Retention Schedule to these physical records.
• Once complete, the metadata contents of the entire collection require
uploading to the Shell Group archive database based in Europe. Proficiency
in MS Excel is a requirement for this activity. Development and
application of metadata to the collection will be required prior to
upload.

This is a fairly substantial but defined piece of work, and guidance will
be provided to the Archivist by the internal SDA Records Management Dept.
The Archivist will be required to attend regular teleconferences with the
Global Project Team to report on Australia’s progress against defined
KPI’s as well as receive advice on issues being experienced across the
project by ourselves or other Project implementers in the Asia-Pacific
region.

If delivering this Project appeals to you, please register your interest
by emailing your CV or Resume to Richard.Teasdale@shell.com
. Applications
are welcome from recent graduates or others seeking a development
opportunity within the Archives / Information Management discipline.
